Perfectly straight teeth are not only an aesthetically beautiful smile, they also improve your overall oral health. In the past, traditional orthodontic braces have been the primary treatment to correct crooked or overlapping teeth.
However, the face of orthodontics across the globe was changed with the revolutionary creation of Invisalign®. Now, you can get perfectly straight teeth with discreet invisible orthodontia.
What is Invisalign®?Invisalign® is an innovative new treatment program that can straighten crooked or misaligned teeth and close small gaps in your smile.
How does Invisalign® work?
The Invisalign® treatment program is based on the patient wearing a sequence of custom-built plastic liners over their teeth. These liners exert a gentle pressure, shifting teeth gradually into the position required to create a straighter, more uniform smile.
The sequencing of liners is created using state-of-the-art mapping technology which takes the original position of your teeth, and how you would like them to look, and maps the process of how the teeth would need to move to achieve this. This provides the plan for each step of movement throughout the program of treatment, which is then used to build your custom liners.
Unlike traditional orthodontic braces, which require the brackets, wires and bands to be adjusted for each stage of the treatment, with Invisalign®, you simply start wearing the next aligner in the sequence.
How will I know my Invisalign® treatment is working? With Invisalign®, you will be responsible for following the schedule of liners as laid out in your treatment plan. On average, each liner is worn for between two and four weeks before moving on to the next in the sequence.
It is important to follow your plan exactly in order for it to work as it should. This includes wearing your liners for the recommended 22 hours per day, and only removing them to eat or brush your teeth/clean your liners.
Although you won’t need to visit us dentist as much as you would if you were wearing braces, you will still need to attend an appointment every few months so that we can check on the progress of your treatment.
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a suitable solution for most teeth misalignment problems.
We believe in finding the right solution for every patient, and so before we approve your candidacy for any treatment you will need to attend a consultation with us at our offices.
At this appointment, we will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth in order to determine if Invisalign® is the right choice of treatment for your dental needs.
What are the benefits of Invisalign®?There are many reasons why patients are increasingly choosing Invisalign® over conventional orthodontic treatments.
DiscreetInvisalign® liners are made from transparent plastic, which means that they are almost invisible when worn. Patients who use Invisalign® report that they feel much less insecure than those who wear orthodontic braces.
RemovableAlthough Invisalign® liners need to be removed to eat, this also means that there is no limitation on the foods that you can enjoy. In comparison, people who wear braces often find that they need to avoid foods that are particularly hard, chewy or sticky in order to avoid damaging their braces.
Improved oral healthConventional orthodontic braces can be difficult to clean around, as the patient will need to negotiate metal, brackets and wires. Invisalign® liners can be taken out, which will allow you to clean your natural teeth properly.
Once your teeth move into their desired position, the gaps between them should largely be closed, preventing food debris and bacteria from accumulating within them.
Fewer maintenance appointmentsIf you choose Invisalign® you will only need to attend check-ups on your progress only every couple of months. There will be no wires or brackets to alter and so the visits are generally shorter and less invasive too, making Invisalign® a preferred treatment for many patients who find themselves short on time.
